MY NEW WORKSPACE--SUNSHINE, SPHERES AND SPARKLE

Recently I abandoned my desk in an upstairs bedroom and claimed the spinet desk on the main floor.  The desk was in the family room.  I dragged it through the foyer to its new location in  a corner of the living room.  I removed everything from the living room corner with the exception of the large pier mirror leaning against the wall.  I like it there. I faced the desk into the room with the mirror behind me.  The wing chair was already in that room and became my desk chair. The disco balls have been rolling around this room for a long time.  They originally were a tree skirt under our Christmas tree.  That was many Christmases ago.  They were just too pretty to put away after the holidays so they roll around all year long.

 I photographed the space and was ready to edit and write the post the next day.  When I walked into the room the next morning, I was greeted by sunshine and sparkle.  Those disco balls are amazing.  You know how I feel about sunshine, spheres, and sparkle.  I just had to get the camera and start all over.  By the time I finished taking the photos, the sparkle had traveled to another location.

Since I ran out of sparkle before I could photograph everything again, this post will be a mix of photos with sparkle and photos without any shimmer at all.

There aren't many drawers in this desk so I used a magazine rack for my folders.

2012 in Review

Change Up-----Maybe

Of course I've been out shopping and checking out a new store,
B and B Home Shop--The Vintage Marketplace at Glenwood, and of course I found a chair to purchase.  I know, the last thing I needed was another chair.  But, it was black and it was patent leather, and I loved it.

Now, here's the change up----maybe.   You know that I just buy because I like it and think about where I'll put it later.  I thought it would be a good desk chair next to my spinet desk.

Now, here's the quandary.   I already have this lovely chinoiserie chair that I covered with my favorite gray zebra fabric.

I like them both.  I love the black they both have.  The new chair has gold trim that works perfectly in the room.  The chinoiserie chair works better style wise since I have a chinoiserie chandelier on the other side of the desk.

Help!!!!! I need input to decide.  What should I do?
 (Please don't say stop shopping.)

Chinese Chippendale Desk Chair

I recently purchased this vintage desk for my family room.
 I loved the yellow color, the chippiness of it, and its chunky legs.
 I finally picked the fabric for the desk chair that I wanted to use next to my Spinet desk.

The chair I chose was a Chippendale design.  I love the chair but. . . .   it had a less than desirable seat cover.  Here's the before.

I chose a pale grey zebra stripe from my fabric stash and changed out the fabric.
 You know how I love animal prints.

I think it looks good next to the desk.  I pull it around to the front when I use the desk.  The black lacquered chair picks up the other black accents I have in the room.
 I consider animal prints neutrals.

     I also placed a bamboo Chinese Chippendale chandelier on the other side of the desk.

It's really a comfortable chair to work in at my desk.  It's also perfect extra seating.

Spinet Desk

Recently I purchased a Spinet desk and added it to my family room.  Its name is derived from its similarity to a Spinet piano.  It was already painted yellow when I purchased it.  You know how I have been loving yellow lately.

There were several reasons why I decided to keep it and not sell it.  

The first reason was that I loved the chunky legs and the chippy paint.

Another feature that appealed to me was that the center section folded back. just like a Spinet piano, to reveal more drawers and storage.
 The inner desktop surface pulls out to create even more work surface.

One last view looking in from the foyer.  Check out my latest sun burst mirror on the left too.

I'm planning on using it as my downstairs desk.  I love the compact hidden storage and also that it has a flat top that can do double duty as a buffet if I have guests.
