ORANGE

 I don’t know why, but I like orange and dislike red.  I’m sharing some sprinkles of orange in my sunroom.

The ottoman is in a Trina Turk orange print, the throw is orange with orange tassels, and the finials are Christmas ornaments that I just couldn’t put away.

I used this pillow as a seat cushion to protect the caning on my Chippendale chair.

I also have some coral prints in mirrored frames.  This is one of them.  I have six different ones layered on my windows.

BLUE AND WHITE FOR CHRISTMAS

 I love decorating for the holidays, but it seems that every year I try to streamline what I do.  I try not to get carried away and add magnolia to every piece of art and every chandelier.  I’ve convinced myself that minimal holiday decor is the way to go.  It makes the January after-holiday packing up and storing so much easier.   

I have blue and white in my sunroom.  Instead of changing too much, I removed some items from the mantel and added some holiday decor.

I never thought I would use faux greenery, but these faux cedar garlands and wreath have become part of my new holiday style.

I kept the large ginger jar on the mantel.  The bookshelves on either side of the mantel have more blue and white.

I found the blue and white pagoda trees on Facebook Marketplace.

The woven trees are a Homegoods find from last year.  They tie in with the seagrass furniture already in the room.

As I get older my decor choices have changed.

CHINOISERIE MANTEL

 It’s another year that I decided to not have a tree for Christmas.  Instead, I’m enjoying adding a garland to the stairway and holiday decor to the mantel.  I never understood why my Mom didn’t want to have a tree for Christmas.  Now that I’m her age, I really get it.

There’s a mantel in my sunroom.  A few months ago I found some seagrass trees.  I thought they’d be perfect in a room that already has seagrass furniture.  The faux bamboo Chinoiserie mirror that’s always on the mantel set the tone for me.  The pagodas and the ginger jars are meant to be table place card holders.  I added a ribbon and pretended they were ornaments.  Another change in my “mature” holiday decor is the use of faux greenery.  The Norfolk Pine garland is from Kirklands and the cedar wreath is from TJMaxx.   I really had fun with the mantel.

ADDING BOOKPLATE ART

One of the easiest ways to add framed art to your decor is by using vintage book plates.   Book plates are illustrations that are added to vintage books during production.  Many times they are hand-colored botanical representations for reference.  The ones I used in my bathroom are prints of original book plates.

The three prints came with their own mats. I was able to find gold frames for the them.  Since the wall is sloped in that room, I staggered the placement rather than line them up in a row.

 The blue and white prints work with the navy, white and gold already in the room.

FORAGED HOLIDAY DECOR

 I always like to use clippings from my garden during the holidays.  My favorite foraged greenery is from Magnolia, Cedar, and Nandina.  This year I'm using my Nandina shrub. Its leaves have turned a perfect holiday red and the Nandina "tree" produced tons of red berries.  

I started my holiday decorating outdoors.   In the summer my Chinoiserie planters are filled with ferns.  For Christmas I clipped my Nandina and put branches and berries inside the iron spheres on the planters.

The planters are on either side of the garage entrance.  This one is on the left of the doors.

I clipped branches from my Nandina shrub and tied them to the lamp post with  black and gold ribbon. Yes, raking our leaves is on our to do list.

I have an iron topiary in the side yard.  I added branches and berries to it.  The tall grass in its Fall color makes a perfect back drop.

I've been thinking about my holiday decor.  I decided to reminisce a bit by viewing all my holiday trees on my blog posts from 2012 to the present.  Each year I seem to do something different.

In 2015 I used my disco balls and silver spheres as a tree skirt.  I never put them away after the holiday.  They've been rolling around the house since then.

ELEPHANT DECOR

Do you ever notice that you repeat decor around your home? 

 I just noticed that I have elephants around my house.  LOL  

In our sun room I have a plaster elephant peeking around my bar cart.  I purchased it for one of the Design Houses I did.  It didn't sell, so it was all mine.  I've said this before but sometimes those items that don't sell become my favorites.

I have a similar plaster elephant on my screened porch.  It's much larger with a flat surface so it can serve as a small side table.

One of my favorite additions to my new kitchen was the appliance garage.  You can see my elephant mugs on the top shelf.  FYI, that majolica lettuce leaf teapot is my sugar bowl.

MY CHINOISERIE HOLIDAY TREE

A few years ago I used my Mom's vintage feather tree with some Kate Spade-inspired ornaments.  I prefer using a white tree.  I think the ornaments show up so much better.  I'll link at the end of this post to the Kate Spade Christmas tree if you'd like to see it.  

This year I  decided to use the white feather tree again.  I swapped the classic Kate black and white for some blue and white Chinoiserie ornaments.  I mixed the blue and white ginger jar ornaments with some white pagodas with green ribbon.  I used my favorite rhinestone garlands too.  I wrapped the pillow on my settee with a rhinestone table runner to add some more sparkle.
