HAPPY THANKSGIVING

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Wishing all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving filled with family and friends.  I’m so thankful to all of you who follow me.  This is an image of my Fall mantel.  My Audubon turkey always makes an appearance some where in my home at this time of year.  He’ll soon be returning to storage to make room for Christmas.

BOOKS I’VE NEVER READ

I’m an avid reader with a confession to make:  Sometimes I buy books because I like their covers.  I have no interest in the content.  Scroll through to view all the books I’ve never read.

I recently purchased this stack of books at HomeGoods.  They’re perfect risers for my faux coral.

I don’t even know how to play Whist but I just needed the book to go with my Whist trophy.

I will always buy a book with an animal print cover.

Do you buy books only for their covers?

LIMELIGHT HYDRANGEA BOUQUET

Every Fall I gather my Limelight Hydrangea blooms and bring them inside to enjoy.  I always thought you had to dry them and then create the arrangement.  I was surprised when I clipped them and placed them directly into the container.  They dry naturally inside.  It’s so easy and they’re so lovely.  This year I used a white pottery jug as a container and placed them in the foyer.

This year I noticed that there are hints of pink mixed in with the lime green.

FALL MANTEL IN EARTHTONES

I just transitioned my family room mantel for this cooler Fall weather.  The trees are really Christmas decor but their muted colors are perfect for Fall too.

The back drop and the brown/beige color was inspired by this oversized art.  It's a print of book spines onto fabric.  The fabric is stretched over a frame just like a canvas.

My recent vintage find is this Italian water jug.

One of my favorite MCM pieces is this brass cube.

I probably won't change much for the holidays.  I'll just remove the pumpkin, add some greenery and ribbons, and maybe a few ornaments  I think I'll layer a wreath over the fabric art.

HEAT DOESN’T MATTER IN THIS SUMMER GARDEN

My Limelight Hydrangea, Russian Sage, and Lantana are thriving in this summer heat.

How is your summer garden faring in this heat?

EMPTY FRAMES ARE ART

I believe that unique empty frames are stand alone art.  Sharing some of my store displays that feature empty frames.

Do you agree?

MY SPECTACULAR RUSSIAN SAGE

I usually cut back my Russian Sage in the Fall.  This year I severely pruned it in March instead.  It looks spectacular.

I think Spring is my new pruning schedule.

MY DEMIJOHNS

Just like my Santos, the demijohns appear in several rooms in my home.  This bejeweled one is in my family room.

I have another one on the landing in my foyer.

He gets decorated for the holidays.

DEMIJOHN READY FOR THE HOLIDAYS

This is my favorite demi.  I placed it on some stacked books and draped it with vintage rosaries.

MY FAVORITE COPPER DEMIJOHN

She gets dressed up for the holidays too.

COPPER DEMIJOHN READY FOR THE HOLIDAYS

I have a half demijohn that spent some time on my kitchen island.

Before he came to the kitchen he was on the screened porch.

Here he is back in the kitchen for Christmas.

GARDEN SNIPPETS

I wanted to share some of my garden blooms.

GARDEN CHIPPINESS AND BLOOMS

GARDEN PATH AND AZALEAS

CLEMATIS CLIMBING THE ARBOR

These roses bloom then rest for three weeks and bloom again.

ROSES

EVENING PRIMROSE

My evening primrose are super stars.  They normally grow low to the ground but they're competing in this bed with some tall Black Eyed Susans.  The primrose took on the challenge and stretched beyond the aggressive Susans.  Flower power!

How does your garden grow?

MANTEL CHANGE UP WITH BOXES

I'm always changing  the mantel in my family room.  I just never seem to get it the way I want it.   I was going to do an arrangement with books similar to what I did in the butler's pantry, but instead of using books, I grabbed my Hermes scarf boxes, some marble black and white striped bookends and topped it off with a shed deer skull and antlers.  The sunburst mirror hopped over from another room.

So, what do you think?
Can boxes be books?
Do you like orange?

MY NEW TO ME DINING ROOM CHAIRS

For many years my dining room table was surrounded by some caned-back Louis IV chairs with suede seats and nail head trim. I’ve always loved them.  I was playing with the idea of new chairs after we updated the kitchen, but never found anything I liked better until. . . .   I saw these wonderful black lacquered vintage chairs.  I knew they would be perfect with the black modern vibe in the kitchen.

MY NEW CHAIRS

They were made by the Italian design firm,Costantini Pietro, in the 1980’s.

Love the lacquer finish and the details on the curved back.

WONDERFUL LACQUER FINISH AND DETAILS

The “tablecloth” is from my fabric stash.  The length was perfect.  All I had to do was hem the edges.

MY FABRIC STASH “TABLECLOTH”

Would you have given up your much-loved Louis chairs for these black beauties?  I did.  They’re for sale on my  Instagram page @shopmycollectedhome.
