Every Spring I a try a new climbing vine on the arbor at the top of the path to the back yard. One year it was a Climbing Hyacinth Bean Vine, another try was the Climbing Cardinal Vine. They both filled the arch but were annuals. My perennial attempt with Jasmine was a failure. It isn't hardy enough for Maryland. It keeps trying to return but it still is struggling.
There has always been a Clematis on that archway but it only lasts a few weeks before disappearing. Last year I added a Honeysuckle. I'm holding my breath, but it seems to be taking off and mixing well with the Clematis. My hope it that it will continue to grow and bloom.

I took this photo of the Clematis right before a big wind arrived and carried away all the petals.

Fingers crossed that this perennial combo will continue to grow every year and cover the arbor.
