BLOOMS AND TENDRILS

I know that the winter weather is behind us when my garden wakes up with blooms and tendrils.  My favorite ferns are still uncurling tendrils.

FERN TENDRILS

The hosta are also twisting and uncurling.
They'll soon fill the space and provide some yummy salad for all the deer.
I would love to hear about some natural solutions to keep deer from eating my plants.

HOSTAS TWISTING AND UNCURLING

My tulip magnolia tree is one of my first signs of Spring.

The rhododendron is not far behind.

RHODODENDRON

This past Fall I purchased some Giant Allium from Holland Bulbs.  They're still growing so no photos of them yet.  I can't wait to see their blooms.  I received some mini tulip bulbs as a gift with my order.  I planted them among the boxwoods and grasses in one of my beds.

One of my ground covers, Creeping Jenny, has also appeared.  I love her lime green color and the way she keeps the weeds somewhat under control.

CREEPING JENNY GROUND COVER

I always try to add ground cover to my garden.  It helps with the weeds and also adds texture and color.  I've written about all kinds of ground cover choices before.  If you'd like to see that post, go here.

ESPALIER INSPIRATION

I've always wanted to have an espalier in my garden.  I even had the perfect wall for it and an inspiration image.

Espalier Inspiration

Of course I'm way too impatient, so I planted Japanese boxwood and added geometric trellises in between each one.  If you're a long time follower you've already seen what I came up with for the wall, but hang in there because I have been saving some espalier inspiration that I'll share.

I covered the trellises with climbing cardinal vine.
 I grew them from seeds.

Here's a close up of the vine on the trellises.  To see the whole post and get the link to purchasing the seeds, go here.

I haven't given up.  Here are some I'd love to try.

My blogger friend, Ron, who writes the blog, Uptown Acorn, created an espalier on his fence with Confederate Jasmine.  Not only is it the look I love, but also the scent from the Jasmine makes it even better.  You can also find Ron on Instagram @acorncottageuptown.

LEGS

Do you  choose your furniture because you like the legs?   I do.

One of the reasons I bought this french desk was because of the curvy chippy legs and the metal filigree applique.

CURVY CHIPPY LEG ON MY FRENCH DESK

I loved the Chinese Chippendale garden chairs, but the x base legs on the table convinced me to purchase the set.

X BASED LEGS ON CHINOISERIE GARDEN TABLE

I fell really hard for the legs on my kitchen islands.

GREAT LEGS ON MY KITCHEN ISLANDS

I have another table in my kitchen with legs I love.  The style is called Duncan Phyfe.   You usually see this style on dining room tables.  It's perfect on this side table too.

Check out the legs on the iron day bed on my porch.

ORNATE LEG ON MY IRON DAY BED

I recently wrote about my desk and my new work space.  The chunky legs made me purchase this desk.

I like furniture with legs that end in hooves too. I recently wrote about furniture with hooves.  If you missed the post, go here.  Don't miss the curvy carved leg on one of my dining room chairs.

How do you choose your furniture?  Are you influenced by their legs?
