MY AUGUST GARDEN: PERENNIAL HIBISCUS

It's the last week of August.  This will be my last garden post.  If you'd like to see the other blooms in my August garden, there are links at the end of this post.

I've had this perennial hibiscus in my garden for several years.  Every year the blooms seem more spectacular.  Its huge pink flowers fill the right corner of the garden and flank the entrance to the walkway to the back yard.

I love the buds too.

Do you have a garden favorite?  It's hard for me to pick just one.

MY AUGUST GARDEN: MY LIMELIGHT HYDRANGEA

This month of August I'm sharing images from my cottage garden.  If you missed the previous garden images, I'll have links to them at the end of this post.

My limelight hydrangea is the star of my August garden.  This image was taken in late afternoon.  I love the effect of the dappled sunlight.

It's a great backdrop for the lamp post.

Just one last image of it, promise.

Of course I had to bring some hydrangeas inside.  Here they are in the almost complete kitchen.  I'm waiting on the backsplash, but I did get the upper cabinets this week.

MY AUGUST GARDEN: RUSSIAN SAGE AND CARLY ROSE GRASS

This month I've been sharing images of my garden.
There are links to the previous garden features at the end of this post if you missed them.

I have Russian Sage in several places in my garden, but its happiest location is along the sidewalk under the Limelight Hydrangea.

The bees love the Russian Sage.

If you look through the Russian Sage you'll see my Carly Rose Grass in the upper right corner.

RUSSIAN SAGE AND CARLY ROSE GRASS

I'll admit that grasses can become very invasive.  I had several Carly Rose grasses in the front garden.  I moved all but this one to the back yard.  I'll also admit that every Spring I divide the grass in half so it stays a manageable size.

I love the way it fills the curve of the sidewalk and sways in front of the porch.

MY AUGUST GARDEN: POPS OF LAVENDER IN MY COTTAGE GARDEN

Images from my August garden continue.

I'm not much of a fan of purple, but it seems to be the main color in my August cottage garden.

As my perennials take turns blooming throughout the summer, my annuals provide constant color .  My favorite annual is Lantana.  This year I chose trailing lavender Lantana. You can see it cascading out of the planter.

Looking in the opposite direction you can see the purple Vinca that I planted around the lamp post.  I buy Vinca because the deer won't touch it.  They don't seem to mind the heat and continue to bloom and grow even when I forget to give them a drink.

VINCA AROUND THE LAMP POST

I planted more vinca among the grasses and boxwoods.

There's even more purple!!!!

The Clematis is a perennial that climbs my arbor every year.

The Dianthus is also a perennial.  I count on it to fill a hanging basket in the side garden.

This is a sneak peek at my Russian Sage.  I'll be sharing more of it later.

Here's another kitchen sneak peek.   I'm waiting on some cabinets and the splash, but wanted to share an image of one of the two islands and the hood.  Yes, my cabinets are black.

MY AUGUST GARDEN: GIANT BLACK EYED SUSANS

This month of August I'll be sharing my garden.  It's been a hot lonely summer for me,  but my cottage garden is thriving.  I've been enjoying the giant Black Eyed Susans that fill one of my kitchen windows.

GIANT BLACK EYED SUSANS

This is my view from my kitchen window.   This is also a sneak peek at my kitchen renovation that's still on going.  Yes, I've painted all my windows and doors black.

VIEW FROM MY KITCHEN WINDOW

There are two of these giants on either side of my kitchen porch.  One is blooming faster than the other.

They're over six feet tall!  Just for some perspective, notice that they're as tall as the arbor.

THEY ARE AS TALL AS THE ARBOR

I brought some in to enjoy inside too.
One more kitchen sneak peek.  They installed the counter this week.  I'm still waiting on the backsplash.  The hood needs to go in first.

How is your garden growing this summer?
