CHRISTMAS INDOORS AND OUT

No Christmas tree again this year.  Instead, I’ve just added touches of Christmas both indoors and out.  For long-time followers, you know that every year I did a tree with a different theme.  It was so much fun and I loved every one of the trees.  I still  have the ornaments from each one stored away in case I ever want to repeat.  If you'd like to see the trees over the years, just click on the highlighted link at the end of this post.

Wishing all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving filled with family and friends.  I’m so thankful to all of you who follow me.  This is an image of my Fall mantel.  My Audubon turkey always makes an appearance some where in my home at this time of year.  He’ll soon be returning to storage to make room for Christmas.  

FALL MANTEL IN EARTHTONES

I just transitioned my family room mantel for this cooler Fall weather.  The trees are really Christmas decor but their muted colors are perfect for Fall too.

 The back drop and the brown/beige color was inspired by this oversized art.  It's a print of book spines onto fabric.  The fabric is stretched over a frame just like a canvas.

My recent vintage find is this Italian water jug.

One of my favorite MCM pieces is this brass cube.  

I probably won't change much for the holidays.  I'll just remove the pumpkin, add some greenery and ribbons, and maybe a few ornaments  I think I'll layer a wreath over the fabric art.

HOLDING ON TO THE HOLIDAYS

I found some wonderful turned wood trees at an after-Christmas sale and couldn't bear to just pack them away for next year.  I thought I'd leave them out for a while.  Next year they'll be on the mantel surrounded by greenery.  For now they're on a tray between two bookshelves in the family room.

SANTOS OBSESSION

 I am absolutely obsessed with Santos cage figures and can always find a spot for them in my home.  I will admit that my children think they're creepy.  My relatives just shake their heads at me.  But, they do that with many things I do.  I just ignore them all and enjoy my androgynous decor.

This Santos is on my kitchen counter.

I also have Santos busts.  This one is a bookend wrapped in pearls in my family room.

HOLIDAY HOME TOUR: THE FOYER

The holiday home tour continues in my foyer.  There's a link to the previous tour of my kitchen at the end of this post if you missed it.

No tree in the foyer this year.  I decided to go with a garland and these fabulous over-sized gold orbs.  The garland is faux Norfolk pine.  They're suspended  with velvet and rhinestone ribbon.  I tucked some real Magnolia clippings here and there.

HOLIDAY HOME TOUR: THE KITCHEN

 With every holiday I try to simplify and streamline my decor.  No tree this year, again.   Instead, I added pops of Christmas around the house. Follow me as I travel around my home adding holiday decor.  In the kitchen I used preserved boxwood, fresh magnolia and cedar cuttings.  I really wanted to add a garland to my hood.  I thought I'd use magnets to attach it.  I was disappointed when I realized that it wasn't magnetic.  It remains unadorned.

I added some velvet ribbon and gold ornaments under my demijohn.

My Santos only needed some magnolia.  The print joined the holiday decor with a bough of cedar.

All my bread board needed was some ribbon and a Magnolia sprig.

I swapped the dried artichokes around the base of the boxwood topiary with some golden pears, then added a ribbon to get it in to the holiday mood.

Next holiday room will be my entry.  I used a garland there and added some oversized ornaments.  Check it out this weekend.

Any suggestions for attaching a garland to a hood without creating any damage would be greatly appreciated.

In 2015 I used my disco balls and silver spheres as a tree skirt.  I never put them away after the holiday.  They've been rolling around the house since then.

You know that I don't like red.  This is the only time I had a red tree.  I think it was because I loved these plaid suitcases and just had to do it.
