Our First Sale

I'm so excited to share my new space at Buckeystown Design CoOp with you.  It's quite a mix of old and new as well as a mix of styles--MCM, European, and my fav, bohemian.  I've never had such a large space to fill and it's been so much fun to style.

To cover the cinder block walls, I painted some vintage doors gloss white and outlined the panels in gold.  I need to find a few more for the rest of the wall.

I placed two chrome and wood bookshelves next to each other, and put some small mirrors in a row on a piece of burlap dangling down the center.  To create a backdrop, I added decorator paper with a sea life pattern behind the open shelves.

 How unexpected to have rhinestone eyes.

My Tulip Magnolia and Bar Cart

When my tulip magnolia blooms, I know that Spring has arrived.  

The flowers completely fill the large window at the back of my home.

My fig tree spends the winter inside in front of that window, but that same fig tree prefers to be outside for the summer.  As soon as he vacated his spot, the bar cart rolled out from its corner and filled the space.  No space or horizontal surface ever stays empty for long around here.   Since I'm more of a glass of wine girl,  I styled the cart with whatever barware and accessories I could grab from around the house.   It's not quite a stocked bar, but I like how it turned out.

I styled both shelves with barware and complemented with nature-inspired accessories.

MCM Dresser Goes Beachy

I recently purchased a Mid Century Modern dresser and initially was uncertain how to update it. With Spring hopefully on the way and many beach trips in the future, I decided that blue and white was the way to go.  

Here it is in all its nautical loveliness.
I used General Finishes Snow White and Coastal Blue and let the natural geometry of the piece tell me where to put the contrasting colors.


What says beach more than blue and white stripes?

Here's the before.

 I'm a sucker for horizontal stripes,
 and the hardware reminded me of my current favorite decor obsession-----arrows.

Is everyone ready for warmer weather and the beach?
I know I'm in the minority,
 but I actually enjoyed the snow days and the enforced stay-at-home-coziness.

Tweaking My Vintage Finds

For me, vintage finds always involve some tweaking.  I wanted to share my recent refinements that I'll have at this weekend's sale.

I scored a set of six vintage chairs.  There are two arm and four side chairs.  The seats were faux leather, which to me means that spills are an easy clean up.  Unfortunately, the chair back caning was torn and missing.  I filled the empty space with some black and white checked fabric.  I also added some cording and nail head accents.

This chest is manufactured by Drexel.  I wanted to accentuate the graduated drawers so I taped off a rectangle with blue painters' tape and outlined the drawers in black.

I painted this Asian-style chest black then used my new favorite product, Annie Sloan gilding wax in copper, to highlight the trim and enhance the fabulous hardware.

I wanted this vintage two drawer nightstand to pop.  I used my favorite color, citrine in high gloss.

On top of the nightstand is a building model.  I thought some books would look good in the center between the columns.  I decoupaged an image of a clock face on the books.

I found a phone seat with a quatrefoil pattern.  You can sit and chat on your phone, or place it as a bedside table, add a lamp, and sit down to put on your shoes.  I had the elephant hooks and thought some elephant fabric would be perfect on the seat.  ( The telephone is a WWII field phone.)

Plexi folding chair is new.  I thought it needed some faux sheepskin.

I painted the trim around this ordinary cork board and used adhesive to attach some leopard fabric to the cork.  It can be a place for pinning messages or used for jewelry.

I painted the industrial stool, painted and covered a small bench with polka dot fabric, and layered a glicee still life onto a drafting table.

I filled a unique iron basket with books.

I'm always on the lookout for deconstructed lamp shades with interesting shapes.  I added some wide checked ribbon and vintage buttons to the curvy chippy shade in the center.  To its right is a decoupaged shade.

Spools and cord have become pretty popular.  I displayed them on a bottle dryer and on some Shaker-style nesting boxes.

I also arranged some small items.  These vintage brushes and a fan are inside a parfait glass.

Cash register keys and pencils in a flower frog.

All these tweaks will be for sale this weekend at Sweet Clover Barn.
