HOLIDAY UNDER MY DEMIJOHN CLOCHE

 One of my favorite purchases was this half demijohn cloche with a copper edge.  It was the exact diameter to fit on to this gold washed pedestal.  During the year it holds some fruit, and in the Fall I change it up with pumpkins.  This holiday season I purchased some hand blown gold ornaments.

I rested them on a faux olive branch garland that I purchased from Ballard Designs many years ago.

There were two reasons I convinced myself to buy these ornaments.  First, the gold color was perfect in the kitchen.  Second, was the glass applied hook.  I'd never seen anything like it before.  I removed the demijohn so you could see the unique hook for hanging.

MY KATE SPADE- INSPIRED CHRISTMAS TREE

Christmas has been a long time coming to our house.  We've had a one-month renovation that stretched well beyond two months.  I was waiting for all the construction traffic to be gone

 before I put up the tree.  Hence, very late with the decor.  For the first time in forever I don't have a live tree to decorate for Christmas.  I have a small vintage feather tree instead that I placed on the landing in the foyer.  I couldn't wait to add my Kate Spade-inspired ornaments to it.  I knew the black and white with pops of pink would really stand out on the white tree.

Adding ribbon makes them look like gifts.

Fur, Feathers, and Pearls For Our 2016 Christmas Tree

You may not know this about me, but I'm quite Scroogey about the holidays.  It's not that I don't enjoy the decorating, it's just that I dread taking it all down, packing it away, and finding a place to store it all until next year.  I felt especially lazy this season.  I decided not to decorate the mantels or any other space in the house.  The tree and a fresh wreath on the front door were my holiday concession.

We found a beautiful tree.  I convinced myself that it was so shapely that all it needed was some lights and a draped pearl garland.  My ulterior motive of course was that the less I put on the tree the less I had to remove.  Well, I thought it looked lovely in a minimalistic way.  Unfortunately, anyone who stopped by asked me when I was going to finish decorating the tree.  My sister even offered to help me decorate it! 

 I caved and added some feather wreaths, a section of fur fabric as a tree skirt, and a few ornaments.  The other difference is that I normally photograph our tree in daylight.   I decided to give it a try at night.  I like the shadows and contrasts that the darkness creates.

Holiday Display Ideas-----Holiday Market Round Two

Yes, two sales in November.  I wanted to share how I pulled it off for round two.

Enjoy.

Deer head vases and some greenery fit perfectly into these huge cloches on a metal base.

I could also see them filled with an assortment of shiny ornaments, greenery, or both.

Cloche close up.  I layered an ornament over a frame and filled a glass container with ornaments.
They are reflected in a vintage etched mirror.

 More ornaments fill a vintage silver plate tray and a felted bunny hops out of a trophy.

Who says you have to put candles in mercury glass candlesticks?  These spiky gold spheres look much better to me.  Next to the candlesticks is a vintage scale, filled with what else but ornaments and antlers.

A section from a table base can be part of the holiday decor.  Just add a ribbon and a sparkly gold floral mirror.  I could see this as part of a mantel holiday display or on a front door.  You could substitute a wreath for the mirror.

I recently purchased this canvas-lined french market basket and used it to display the dancing glitter deer. 

A huge roll of corrugated cardboard is one of my tree bases.  I draped a vintage fur wrap around the base, placed a peacock wreath horizontally onto it, and dropped the "trunk" of my faux tree into the hole in the center of the cardboard roll.   

I was able to hang some ornaments from the wreath too.

If you follow this blog you know that I'm always layering empty frames.  These chippy chunky frames give sneaky peeks of a vintage floral oil.   Suspended inside one of the frames is a glitter laurel wreath.  I used a small crown ornament as a tree topper and a french book as a riser for my tassel ornaments.

Why not paint a barrel green and upholster the top to make it a seat with storage inside.  When I was setting the space,  I needed another base for my second tree.  I took off the leopard cushion and dropped the tree into the bucket.  This is my menagerie tree.  The felted animal "trophies" are tucked into the branches.  The tree on the dresser in the background is an inverted tomato cage covered in grapevines and painted white.

A Victorian wall pocket can hold ornaments and magnolia branches during the holidays.
