MY TV GALLERY WALL

I've been working on creating a gallery wall around the TV in my family room.   I wanted the wall to be a mix of art and objects.  My goal was to try to tie in that huge black rectangle I call the TV with the framed art and objects.  The art I used was nature-inspired art from vintage books, matted inside black frames. To add interest and distract from the TV,  I mixed mirrors, turtle shells and even a mannequin with the art.

I started on the left side of the TV.  I've already written about that here.

If you saw my post about how I pulled one side of the gallery wall together, you'll know that I've tweaked that side a bit.  The mannequin swapped her pearls for some sunglasses.

The Nate Berkus faux turtle shell breaks up the framed art and repeats 

the color green found in the room.

Layering works.  The mirror straddles the two pieces of artwork.

More layering.  The shelf and demijohn are layered in front of the art.

The moss ball and stack of Hermes scarf boxes form another layer in front of the chrome shelf.

Crazy Serial-Decorator Mom Updates Daughter's Dining Room

Recently our daughter moved into her first home.  She and I have many projects in the works, but none complete.  Of course we were able to pull things together somewhat and couldn't wait to share our progress.  We have a dining room sneak peek.  Oh you have no idea what else we're considering for this room.  So exciting.

She already had a round oak dining table that traveled from her apartment to her new home.  After we had the chairs, draperies, and rug in place, we decided to paint the table black.  Here's our before pic.

With so much black in the room, the table had no choice but to accept our decision.  

 It was a very quick paint job for us.

The draperies are from my kitchen.  The fabric is made by Schumacher and the draperies by moi.  What a lucky girl to have a crazy Mom serial decorator.  Yep there's always a change up around here.  The chairs were also inherited and I softened them up with some gray faux fur throws--also confiscated from Mom.

Not only does my daughter benefit from my constant decorating changes,  but she also gets dibs on my constantly changing store merchandise.  I carry many chandelier styles, but we thought that this wood and iron chandelier was perfect above the table.   You'll see a large canvas sea life wall art acting as a backdrop for the chandelier.  It fills the large empty wall and of course has a background in what else but---BLACK.

We filled the gap between the draperies and the corner with a Nate Berkus faux turtle shell.

It's our color compromise.  Notice that there actually is some yellow in the rug and art too.
We're not going totally Johnny Cash on you.

Dorothy Draper Espana Dresser Finds A Spot

Do you remember soooooo looooong ago when I was swooning over the Dorothy Draper dresser I found?

Well, I've given in and placed it in my family room. 

I knew from the beginning that it would go well in that room. 

But, if you've been following along, my family room is very dark and has tons of
dark wood too--and a dark sofa.
I was really resisting adding more black in that room even though black is my favorite color to use.
(It's actually everywhere in my home.)

To brighten it up, I framed some orange Trina Turk fabric. 

The pattern on the fabric reminded me of modern art.  I also used a white lamp base.  The turtle is faux.  I thought that the citrine draperies would  balance out the black too.

I think that it works.  Below is the full view of the dresser which I placed to the right of the fireplace mantel.  Can I say again how much I hate that cedar wood that's everywhere?

This next image shows how it looks with my X base coffee tables that are in front of the sofa.

So, too dark?  I really love that dresser.
