WOODEN BEAD DECOR

It's been over two years since I closed my vintage/home design store and I still miss the creative outlet it gave me.  I sometimes go to the Pinterest board I created for the store and think about all the fun I had creating new spaces there.  As I was scrolling through the Pinterest images,  I realized how much I loved to decorate with wooden beads.  Garlands of wood beads tumbled in and out of the decor.  Most of my chandelier choices had wooden beads too.  I'm sharing some of the store displays in case you might want to add some wooden beads to your home too.

I love this white beaded pendant chandelier.  My daughter and I both have it in our homes.  Her chandy is above her table.  Mine is in a bedroom.

WHITE BEADED CHANDELIER IN THE STORE DURING THE HOLIDAYS

This brown beaded chandelier has a French vibe.  Notice the metal fleur-de-lis.  If you look in the background you can see the white chandelier again in a different store display.

Many times I simply turn a chandelier on its side and place it on a table.  It's much easier than hanging it in the store.  This one has gray beads.

In this next image you can see the bottom of a black beaded chandelier.  A turquoise bead garland drapes itself around the decor.

This image was  from our European container sale.  Beads dangle over the edge of a vintage yellow ware bowl.

I always drape bead garlands over books.  Candlesticks can be bookends.  A crown can take the place of a candle.

Bead garlands add some color to a bookshelf.

I filled a clear pedestal vase with blue bead garlands and spilled some white garlands out of a dough bowl. They're reaching for the floor.  Empty frames also like to be adorned with beads.

These red beads decided to drape themselves down a stack of vintage document boxes.

You can also add beads to a large bowl.

I placed a beaded tray upright and added beads.

Or, simply rest a garland on a table.

Do you add wooden beads to your decor?

If not, what do you add as a decor accent?

Santos

Have you discovered Santos yet?  I actually have three different styles of them in my home.
I have the Santos angel on my landing.

Santos Angel on My Landing

She became part of my holiday decor.

I have another version on my screened porch.

Santos on My Screened Porch

I don't believe I've shared this other Santos.
She's in my living room and stands upon a stack of document boxes next to my bookcase.

Every time I find a crystal necklace or rosaries, I drape them around her.

Her cage skirt supports a framed Italian print.

Do you have a favorite accessory that you repeat throughout your home?

My Vintage Bamboo

Previously I blogged about vintage bamboo and how versatile it is.   It's neutral, so it fits in anywhere and one piece can be used in so many ways.  If you missed the previous post, go here.

In this post I wanted to share the bamboo pieces I have in my home and how I use them.

I have several bamboo shelves.  I have two in my sun room on either side of my fireplace mantel.  I use this one for books.

Bamboo Shelf with Books

Although they're narrow, I can pack them with books.
They're also lightweight and can be moved easily when one of my frequent change ups happens.

To add some variety to the books, I put a pedestal orb, some coral, and a string of amber beads on the top shelf.  A framed watercolor is a backdrop.  I also tucked my foo dog on the lower shelf.

I also have a bamboo footstool.  I love its shabbiness.  I keep it on my stairway landing and use it as a riser for my ever-changing displays.

I have another bamboo footstool.  The top was damaged so I covered it with some P.Kaufmann leopard fabric.  The top lifts and I store my candles inside.  On top is my bamboo tray.  It has a lacquered insert with an image of a bird.

My bamboo footstool with a leopard top.  Bamboo tray with bird.
This tiered cart is made of rattan, but I consider and use it like bamboo.  It's in my dining room and holds of all things my bamboo place mats.  These are the best place mats because they wipe clean and I can even use them as trivets.

Here's a closer look.  The prints are vintage framed botanicals.  My grandfather made the plaster bust.

This two level bamboo stand is in my kitchen.  I use it to hold my metal document boxes.  I'll do another post about them, but I use them to cut down on the kitchen clutter.

Yes, there's more of the rough cedar trim in my kitchen too.

Notice the top of this stand.  I've been told that whenever you see this type of a design on the top of a piece of bamboo instead of a woven top, you can assume that it's English bamboo.

This isn't one of my better vignettes, but I wanted to share this other style of bamboo stand.  We use it to hold one of our phones.

It's also "English".  Notice the leaf pattern.

I use this bamboo easel to hold a vintage book on a shelf in my pine cupboard.  In the plate grooves are some of my green and white transferware.

I think my most unique piece is this side table.  Not only is it large, but it also has two small fold-out shelves.  They can be down as I have them in the photo, or they fold up and are out of the way.

I think it's my favorite bamboo piece.

The side shelves can be for display, or many times it's where I rest my coffee cup.

Our bed is rattan.  It isn't vintage but I still love the look.

So, do you have any bamboo pieces in your home?

January Barn Sale

It's time for our January sale at the barn.  I've had almost six weeks to get ready.  What a luxury that is compared to a seven day a week obligation.  Each month I've done something different.  This month I'm doing a lot of --cameras, pulleys, molds, wooden boxes, and industrial stuff.  My favorite find, which I've featured on the back wall, are a pair of framed medical reference illustrations.
They're from a medical book, Human Anatomy (1907), by Dr. George Piersol, a 20thC University of Pennsylvania Professor of Anatomy .

To the left of these large illustrations is a huge wooden mold for sand casting metal wheels.
It looks like a big wooden wheel.

Below the illustrations is the gray and orange striped dresser that I painted.  On top are some covered books with an elephant (I made another set for the sale), and a glass container with brightly colored orbs.

Here's a close-up.

I'll have some industrial pendants that can be hard-wired or used with a plug.

Also, some hanging pendants with chains and an Edison bulb.

You all saw the chair I re-covered in a Chevron pattern.  Next to it is a document box with a steer skull, and below, the vanity bench I painted orange and covered with Imperial Trellis fabric.

I love that skull.  Here's a closer look.

I also have this wonderful vintage Corona typewriter and a vintage typewriter stand.

I filled a table with an assortment of books, boxes, bottles, iron farm gears, and insulators.

I placed the letter R in front of a bamboo mirror from Ballard, and on the bamboo table is an old dictionary, a globe and some maps.

I also have a large iron wheel, a metal stool, and several large vintage tins.

I also have a drafting table and T-square, an old metal kitchen stool, and the tiniest adding machine I've ever seen.  Drafting tables are perfect for an extra serving table and they store flat.

For those of you who love to use vintage cameras in your decor, I have quite a selection of interesting ones.

I hope you can make it.

Kathy
