Upholstery Before and After

I'm always amazed at what a little bit of imagination + some great fabric + a great work room can do for dated vintage furniture.  Here are my latest before and after transformations.  They made their debut in
 my room at the Design House at the Old Lucketts Store and were very well received.



This vintage wing chair had great bones. It traveled from Colonial Willamsburg to Mod with some houndstooth fabric and paint.

This vintage x bench was faded and sagging.  I added some high gloss paint to the base and modern geometric fabric.   It was tricky saving the original gold on the medallions and trim, but I did it.

There were fabulous legs on this bench, but also a lot of crud. It took me a while to scrape and sand off all the debris. It was the first sale of the day.  I painted the base gloss white also.  The fabric is by Duralee in an Ikat pattern.

Mid Century Modern X Coffee Tables

My family room is going Mid Century Modern. It's a completely different look than other rooms in my house, but I'm liking the look more and more.   It all started with a buffet that I use as a tv stand.  It's the perfect height for tv viewing and has a ton of storage.

  A friend of mine found me a pair of X base coffee tables.  The image is of one of them.  I liked the base but wasn't crazy about the top.  

Originally I was going to paint the top and add nail head around the edge.  What I ended up doing was having a mirror with a beveled edge cut for the tops.  I like them in front of the modern Petrie sofa I bought from Crate and Barrel.  I think they also go well with the Flokati rugs I just found.

 I'm having second thoughts about the mirrors.  They're constantly covered with finger prints.  I may have an upholstered top added in place of the mirrors.

I also was very excited to find these coasters at Pier 1.  I love the design.  They come in many colors but of course I purchased orange ones.  Now I need to get my family members to use them.

I'm working on changing up the mantel in this room but I'm not there yet.

Vintage X Bench

Recently I purchased this vintage X bench.

I loved the base, but the blue velvet left something to be desired.  I was going to re-cover it with a geometric or animal print with some nail head trim.  

But, you know how impatient I am.  I wanted it in my family room NOW.   I placed it in front of the fireplace and added a small animal hide to cover the blue.  On top of that I placed a tray, some books topped with a piece of coral and a faux tortoise shell on a stand.

I may eventually re-cover the seat, but for now I like it.

Please, Someone Stop Me

I am cursed by the I am too organized gene.  I had everything ready for the sale at the Pink Poet in   advance.  I even photographed the items and had the post  (here) written a week before I published it.

I'm out of control.  I'm having so much fun pulling things together that I just had to share and tempt you with some items I just assembled after the fact.

You may have seen the wall sconces in a previous post.  I was able to find some crystals to complete them.  The bamboo tiered stand with baskets actually can serve a purpose besides being decorative.  I'm loving the iron x bench with the zebra fabric.  The weathered yellow child's adirondack is very cute.  It could be used in the garden.  I'm also into what I call guy things.  Vintage cameras work so well on office bookshelves.  The corona typewriter is in its case and in very good condition, but when I got it home I noticed it had eau de basement.  It's priced accordingly.

Now I need everyone to come to the sale and clean me out.  I don't know where I'll fit everything if it has to come home again.
