SPIKEY SPHERES

I've been working on the guest bedroom with my granddaughters in mind.  Even though the room has a European vibe, I chose this modern Sputnik flush mount lighting.   I filled a large empty wall with some decoartor paper.  It gives the effect of over-sized art and is the perfect backdrop for my spikey chandy.

Originally this room had a vintage chandelier with acanthus leaves.  I really liked it, but anyone over 5'4" bumped into it.

After choosing the new lighting, I realized that I have a thing for spikey objects.  This sphere is on one of the shelves in my dining room cupboard.

The spikey sphere on a pedestal is my dining room centerpiece.  I've written about it before here.  It actually is a light fixture that never made it to the ceiling.

I'll be posting more of the guest room as I complete it.  I pretty much removed everything.  It's much easier for me to start with a blank slate.

Bird Decor

For someone who claims to not care for birds, I spy quite a few in my home.  If you've been following my blog you've already seen the mercury glass bird in a cloche on my porch.

Recently I purchased collage art with an ostrich. 

 I have the art leaning against the wall while I decide if it stays in the foyer or if there's a better spot for me to put yet another nail hole into a wall.

There are a pair of bookcases in my family room.   I call them my nature-inspired shelves.  You'll see framed vintage bird engravings, eggs, nests, and even some transferware plates with birds in flight.

Many years ago I purchased a calendar with Audubon prints.  I had my two favorite ones matted and framed.  They've been all around the house.  This week they're in the kitchen.

Last but not least, since it is Fall and I haven't done any Fall decorating, I thought I'd share a mantel I pulled together years ago when I was ambitious and changed my mantel seasonally.  You can see a brass pheasant peeking out on the right.

Move Over Gallery Wall

 Move over gallery wall.
Oversized art fills a large wall space just as well and provides drama and interest to a room.  
Best of all it doesn't require measuring and multiple nail holes.

Recently I was able to find large original art for the store.  Many of the works are in collage form.  They're stretched over a frame and then finished with burlap and nail head around the edge.

Of course I kept some for myself.  This collage with browns and greens is perfect on the stair landing in my foyer.  It pairs with the brown rug and with the stripes on the wall.  The green in the collage matches the demi-john I layered in front of it.  It has a Fall feel too.
