MY FABULOUS FINDS GRAVEYARD ---- LOOK WHAT HAPPENED!!!

One of my skills is my ability to find the fabulous and the unique---- and then hoard it until I have the perfect location.   I haven't decided if this is a good or bad skill to have.  You see what has been happening with me for many, and I mean many years is that I have no will power and I purchase these wonderful pieces without having a plan or a place for them.  Hence, I am the owner of the fabulous finds graveyard.

I'm happy to announce that I was able to retrieve this vintage copper-topped restaurant tray from the home decor graveyard and find the perfect spot for it in my kitchen.  In preparation for the blog post about the tray,  I added a vase with some clippings from my Nandina shrub.   I love using "just green" clippings as Fall flower arrangements.

The next morning when I entered the kitchen I found that the Nandina decided to shed all its leaves.  Look what happened!

My first thought was that I had a big mess to clean up.  Next though I realized that the way the Nandina scattered her leaves was very artist.  I decided to write the blog post with the leaves just where they fell. The tray is huge.  I'm going to use it as an extra serving/prep area in the kitchen.  I love that the copper covers the sides too.  Don't miss the nail head trim on the corners.  It fit perfectly on top of a folding French bistro table I also had in the graveyard.  Don't you love it when it all works out.

Of course I mostly cleaned it up.  Here's the result in the afternoon sun.

Notice the hook behind the demijohn bowl with the bee napkin rings.  I think the restaurant hooked up the tray when it wasn't in use.  What do you think?

MIXING MY MODERN LUCITE COFFEE TABLE WITH A CHINOISERIE PILLOW

There is a very modern lucite coffee table in my family room.  I recently changed it up a bit with some over-sized photography books, bleached antlers, and a bowl of artichokes.

I have both green and orange in this room.  To pick up the green in the room, I placed some artichokes in a bowl.  The bowl is a demijohn base with an added copper rim.  A linen chinoiserie pillow brightens up the sofa and repeats the orange found in other parts of the family room.

 Not only does the linen pillow pick up the green and orange in the room, but it also has the most wonderful piping.  If you look closely you can see the gathers in the corners.

 I love that you can see my leopard pattern rug through the coffee table.   The shape of the spots is slightly blurred and the pattern is perfectly named Cezanne Leopard.

The coffee table has two side pockets for books or magazines.  I leave them empty because they're the perfect spot for my granddaughters to tuck their stuffed animals or for them to drive their toy cars and trucks.

How do you mix and match your decor?

STYLING YOUR SPACE WITH CONTAINERS

We all have special treasures we want to display.   Containers are an easy way to style your finds.  For me, one of the best ways to do this is to gather them together inside cloches, stack them into glass containers, or even place them inside lanterns.

Clear glass containers work well.   In my living room I stacked some mottled ceramic spheres into a large clear jar.  I rested the jar on a mirrored pedestal.

This next container is tall and narrow.  Small turtle shells climb over each other to reach the top.  I put some sea glass into the bottom of the jar.

One of my partners, Monica, @Gatehouse Designs, just dropped some leather-bound books into an over-sized jar.

She used the same idea with some freeze-dried artichokes.

I did the same thing with this driftwood garland.  It filled and overflowed the fluted jar.

Cloches work just as well as jars.  When they're on a pedestal, I like them even better.

I rolled up some large architectural book plates and placed them inside a very large cloche on a pedestal.

In a matching cloche, I simply added a small bust on top of a stack of vintage books.

This cloche is on my screened porch.  I filled it with shells, coral, and a mercury glass bird.

This "cloche" is actually the top half of a demijohn.  There's a picture frame inside and some jewelry draped around the neck of the bottle.

My collection of artists' brushes is inside this cloche.  The backdrop is a vintage framed ceiling tile.  HINT:  To get all the brushes in place, I turned the cloche upside down, added the brushes, then the base, and flipped it right-side-up while supporting the base from underneath.

And yes, I didn't put a candle into my lantern.  Instead, I added some books, a cast iron bird, and a piece of fan coral.
