MY LATEST VINTAGE FIND: DOROTHY DRAPER CHAIRS

Over the years many tables and chairs have passed through my kitchen.  When I found these Dorothy Draper chairs by Baker Furniture,  I knew that the Chinese Chippendale chairs had to go.

The back is just as detailed as the front.

If you've been following my blog for a while you know that not only do I love black and white, but I also love nail head trim.

There is even more nail head trim around the curved back.

Another detail:  a medallion applique.

This brass handle is also a Draper signature-style feature.  It appears on many of her furniture pieces.

And just when you think she just can't add another detail, you notice the greek key design carved into the back rest.

Dorothy Draper is one of my favorite designers.  I'm sure it's because she always uses black and white, adds pops of color, and mixes patterns.  Best of all, she's not a minimalist.

How I Re-purposed and Styled Vintage Post Offices Boxes

My husband and my son are vintage car enthusiasts.   They also love all  kinds of "guy" stuff.  Old oil cans, automotive and gas station related signs, car parts, and even the top to an old gas pump have found their way home with them.  So, on one of our joint flea market shopping trips it didn't surprise me at all when I opened the van and saw a section of boxes from a post office.

They came with all their keys and were outlined in a fabulous greek key design.

Our garage is the holding zone for treasures waiting for a spot in our home.  They stayed there for a while until we realized that they could be our new wine storage cabinet.  We were thrilled when they fit perfectly between the bookcases in the family room.  It was a win win--wine within reach and another find out of the garage.

Our wine bottle opener set fits into the bottom drawer.

Of course you've noticed that I couldn't let a flat surface unstyled.  I added a tray to the top then filled it with accessories from other spaces in my home.

The sphere and the Hermes boxes came over from the mantel.

The horse head decided to leave a bookshelf and stay here.

Lately I've been loving anything with arrows.

 I liked my Trina Turk fabric so much that when I had a remnant of it from my ottoman project,
 I framed it as modern art.

I wanted to share one of the bookcase shelves.Notice the other marble orb on a pedestal.
It repeats the greek key pattern on the post office boxes.

Indoor/Outdoor Rugs

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I've become a fan of indoor/outdoor rugs and polypropylene  You see, I consider myself a 100% wool kind of girl.  I have to admit that when  I purchased this rug for my kitchen it was only because the border had a Greek Key design.   For a while now I've been obsessed with geometric designs, and especially with anything with a Greek key.
The rug was absolutely perfect under my kitchen table.

Now that it has been there for a while and has been subjected to dog "mistakes", food spills, and kids,  I've become a fan.  What's not to like with something whose cleaning instructions say to clean with a mild soap and water.  I haven't tried this yet, but it can also be hosed down.

I decided that I wanted another for the food prep area of the kitchen.
Currently there's an oriental rug--also fabulous for hiding stains, but you know me and my other addiction, change ups.

I couldn't find another at the store so I went on line and found:

Here are some of the other rugs that tempted me.  I only looked in the Contemporary Rugs section, but there was a huge variety of styles.

  The 5 X 8 was only $99 with free shipping.

I love the color combination.  Other colors were available too.

This was called Arabesque.

Chains, also available in other colors.

I loved this but it was pricey.

This reminded me of a Duralee fabric.

Prices were all over the place, anywhere from $39  to hundreds of dollars.  I also want to say that I am in no way associated with or endorsing this company, just found a source to share.


I can't wait to get my rug.

Waiting

Don't you hate waiting for design trends to reach T J Maxx and HomeGoods 

so you can actually afford to buy them?

Well, I really scored!

First I found these pillows.

Next, were a pair of vases with a Greek Key design and the hand towels that are going straight to my downstairs powder room.

On a different quest I found Bella a new dog bed. 

I wish I had taken the photo before my yellow dog tried it out.  I worked on the furriness, but I seem to have missed a few.

Have I gone geometrically over board?  What do you think?

I did get a little carried away.  The only other time I went crazy was when HomeGoods got their hands on Williams Sonoma goods.  Ahh, that was quite a shopping trip.
