An Elegant and Decadent Artist's Loft at The Design House

My room at The Design House is styled as an artist's loft.  You'll notice my favorite design elements throughout--black, the color that always shows up with me, mixes of modern with vintage, layering upon layering upon layering, chippiness next to elegance, and always architectural elements. 

 I hope you'll enjoy the images as much as I enjoyed styling the room.

The caned-back sofa is behind a coffee table that I created from two different pieces. 

 The curvy base originally had a glass top.  

Now it supports a Tuscan scene painted on a round board. 

 Under it all is a wool "zebra" rug. 

I used a Victorian folding screen as a back drop for the Mid Century Modern bar cart.

The panels on one side of the screen are covered in a vintage English chintz.

The reverse side is solid brown linen.

This would be a perfect headboard.

I love everything about this chippy vintage double bow front dresser.

The bookshelves are Mid Century modern.  I put them next to each other rather than separated.

The sunburst mirrors hang where the bookshelves meet.

Of course there's an easel with a portrait in oil on canvas.

The desk is wire mesh with a glass top and could easily be a unique bar.

It is styled as a work space.  Above is a framed map of Rome.

A vintage stool is desk seating.  New leopard fabric, double cording and nail head trim accent it.

I combined the over-sized bound New York Times  volumes with
 a deconstructed antique stool to create a small side table.

I used a sofa table on the right side of the room.  It holds more art supplies on its surface.

In the background is a spice cabinet with many drawers.  

In the foreground I created clip boards with old book covers.

Vintage French post cards are tucked into a book folded accordion style.

She rides too.

Vintage Side Chair with English Fabric

It's another caned piece for The Design House.  I'm on a caned furniture roll.

This time though it's a side chair and it's wearing some English fabric with an architectural design.

I actually remembered to take a before picture.  She really needed some atention.

Vintage Caned Back Settee Before and After

In a minute I'll share the before, but wanted to show you how some fabric and paint

 transformed an ugly dated piece into this beauty.

Initially this settee was caned and tufted.
 Of course I remembered to take the before pics when I'd already started removing the old fabric.

The beige fabric is Belgian linen and the center stripe is black linen.  

This next view is without the coordinating pillow.

And of course, my current favorite furniture accent, nail head.  These are 1".

And the view of the new caned back with double cording.

I put the coordinating pillow back on.  Not only does it match the design,
 but it also has cording and a zipper.

September at Sweet Clover

I can't believe that the summer's over.  Why does it go so much faster than the winter?

Anyway,  the third weekend of the month is almost here again and I spent most of the day setting my space. 

 I have to say that a lot of the time was taken up with dusting, sweeping, and the best thing ever---

my sweet husband scrubbed and scraped the crud off the barn windows in my space.  

I can't believe the difference in the amount of light coming into my little stall. 

 Hmm, should have done that sooner.

Okay, now for a peek at what I'll have for this sale. Again, my mix of new with vintage.

 I have to say that I can't explain it, but I'm still trending farm animals. 

 I guess that's the way to go in a barn on a farm.

The much sought after goat giclee is back in stock.  I also have some really wonderful metal arrows.  

They're a perfect way to add interest in a gallery wall display.

Goat was so popular, that there now is a mini version of him and also a giclee of his friend.

The mini farm animals are very popular too.  They look great on a shelf or in a grouping.

Not everyone has space for a large goat or cow. 

 These fix the gotta have it craving.

I've sprinkled the animals all around my booth.  

These guys are resting on some folding benches.

The guy on the right is a silk screened pillow.

This cow's three feet tall!!!!!!

An old metal trunk is bursting with more of the very popular silk-screened pillows.

Check out the new designs.

The trunk is metal with a unique mottled finish. 

 It would make a perfect coffee table or could hold blankets at the foot of the bed.

This other trunk is just like I like 'em--crusty, rusty, chippy.

This canvas and leather ottoman is perfect extra seating,

 or with a tray could become a small table.

Now that school has started-YEA--the map says back to class.  It's behind a desk.  

I used a vanity bench with a burlap seat and nail head trim as a riser.

In the foreground is a tiered bentwood cart on a woven dresser.

Resin antlers and faux tortoise shells on pedestals are hiding under the cloche.

I rolled up some map pages from an old Atlas and tucked them into an urn.

There's a vintage history book underneath.

I displayed some vintage math and reading text books at the base of the globe.

One of my favorite chair styles is this x-back chair.  I have three.

Check out her fringe.

If you need a twin bed for a guest room or for one of your kids, 

this caned-back beauty is for you. 

 I have the rails and also a matching night stand and a custom vintage fabric spread too.
The mirror was actually a clock in a previous life.
The clock face went missing and a mirror fills the gap.

Last but not least, a demi-john.  I've already started a wine cork collection for you.

The mini deer skull with antlers is resin.

Can't wait to see you again.  I'm working Friday but will probably stop by Saturday too.
