When I'm accessorizing a space, I always add art, vintage, if possible. One of my favorite rooms for art is the kitchen. I believe that art belongs everywhere in the home, but especially in the kitchen. My recent kitchen renovation is no exception.
My new kitchen is pretty much black and white with gold/brass accents. Those colors directed the art I chose for the space. I always like to use what I have, so I shopped my home. It's pretty easy for me to move decor from one room to another because most of the rooms have the same color palette.
There was a huge empty wall at the end of the kitchen. I had a choice of choosing a large piece of art or creating a grouping. I decided that a large framed vintage wine poster was perfect for the space. I convinced the family room to let it go to a better place.

Against a backsplash and under an upper cabinet is another spot for art. This portrait art had already been in the old kitchen. It just had to be happy with a new location. It was a perfect fit between the upper cabinet and the counter. One of my art hanging tricks is to use fishing line. It's strong and invisible. I hid a small nail under the cabinet and suspended and floated the art in front of the backsplash.

PORTRAIT ART IN MY KITCHEN
With the renovation, my kitchen and dining room became one space. In one corner of the room is a large vintage corner cupboard. I didn't want to put another large piece of furniture on the opposite wall, but I needed something that would balance out the other side of the room. My solution was a low chest with a pen and ink watercolor above. The art was a gift from my Mom and had to be in a special place. The frame on the chest has a picture of my Mom and her eight children. I think I was a college freshman and my sister on Mom's lap was one.

Yes you can frame a map. I did just that with a map of ancient Rome. It originally was in my living room. The gold frame, black mat, and black and white print made it perfect in the space.

Layering is what I do. I
layer art over bookshelves, or in this case, over my window. To avoid adding a hole to the window frame, I used a ribbon to suspend the art. I let the latch support the ribbon.
