Fall Again

As the weather finally and thankfully gets cooler, I start to think about making changes for the season.  Since I've been blogging for a while, I decided to go back and check out what I've done over the years for Fall decor.  I didn't realize how much I'd done and also how the same Fall decor popped up in different locations, in different containers in my Fall mixes.

My very favorite is the pumpkin that my friend, Leila, painted.  She is an artist with a bohemian flare.  It was perfect perched on the bench on my front porch.

Another year I just added branches to the demijohn on the porch.  Usually I hate the reflection in the window, but this year the colors in the changing leaves were just what the photo needed.

Shed deer antlers are always a part of my Fall decor.  I filled a large glass container with them and added acorns, pine cones, and other Fall finds.

The antlers re-appeared on my screened porch in an urn.  I found the curly seed pods under my neighbor's tree.  She thought I was crazy when I asked if I could have them.

I clipped these turning leaves from a tree in my back yard.  They're perfect on my screened porch in front of my framed ceiling tile.  Those covered demijohns do some traveling around the house too.

FALL LEAVES IN MY DEMIJOHN

In the summer my sphere surrounds a fern, but one Fall I removed the fern and added a mum and some pyracantha from the garden.

In my dining room I added some nandina branches to my ice bucket.   Arrangements can be green and just as pretty as a floral bouquet.

My family room mantel is where most of the Fall change-ups happen.  It's the only time of year I actually like my rough cedar mantel.  The murky brown wood actually works in the Fall.

A blog reader/friend mailed me some velvet acorns and pumpkins.  I love them and use them all the time.  They're my favorite Fall accent.  You can see them spilling out of a silver cup on the mantel.  The backdrop is an iron grate.  I added a chalkboard to an empty vintage brass frame.

VELVET ACORNS
I always use vintage books as risers.  Some mini leather books are stacked under a cloche with a pumpkin on top.  More acorns are spilling down the books, and of course, one of my favs, feathers.

I'm always thrilled when I find old brass frames.  These have their original metal backings.

Another year I created a nature-inspired mantel.  The antlers appeared again, encircling some glass floats.  The prints are vintage book plates that I framed.  I found the turtle shell in the woods.

I told you those covered bottles travel.

FOUND SHELLS AND COVERED BOTTLES

When I purchased stacks of Hermes scarf boxes, I knew those fabulous orange squares would work for Fall--or anytime.  They're sprinkled  and stacked all over the house.   The gold ibex is one of my many faux taxidermy finds.  The spiky sea urchin can be on a flat surface or can hang on a wall.

I filled this belted container with zebra grass, feathers, and seed pods..

This last bit of Fall decor can only be credited to Mother Nature.
The bursting pod is in the field behind my house.

I was amazed by all the Fall decor I had done.  I may just take this Fall off and jump into Christmas.

Pops of Orange in My Family Room

There's always a change up in the works at our house.
This time I'll introduce browns, yellows, metallics and my decor favorite----orange.

I moved this ottoman from the living room to my family room.  It originally had a very traditional solid blue cover, but of course I updated it with some Trina Turk fabric in a bold orange geometric.  I draped it with a tasseled throw and added the orange tray that I normally use on the patio in the summer.  Inside are a stack of vintage books topped off with a moss orb and faux antlers.

I think it's just what the room needed to break up all the green.  The green chairs in the background are new to that spot.  They originally were torn red vinyl.  In the background is my much loved MCM buffet.  It supports our huge TV that I conveniently cropped out.

Check out how the faux antlers hug the moss orb.

Flanking the buffet are a pair of brass, glass, and chrome vintage MCM bookshelves.
The backs were open to my very uninteresting beige wall.  I filled the space with some architectural prints in leather frames.  They're a good back drop for the nature-inspired vignettes.

Take a closer look at the shelves of the bookshelf on the right.
I'm using my orange Hermes scarf boxes as risers.  The antlers are naturally bleached,
and resting on the top shelf is one of my spikey spheres.

I stacked some mini books under a cloche and added a turtle shell on top of the pile.
I found the shell on a walk in the woods.
The antler alongside it is faux.

Gotta share the other shelf too.

Another sphere is on top, the Santos traveled from another spot to be on the shelf, the skull is resin.

One of my covered bottles helps hold up one of those always wobbly brass birds.

This lantern also decided to come in from the cold.
(It will go back to the patio when the weather warms.)
I filled it with my growing collection of velvet pumpkins and some seed pods from a neighbor's tree.
The fabulous brass cube table is from an estate sale.

My Fall Mantel

I can't believe it's Fall already.  I thought I'd do a quick mantel change up to get with the season.
All summer my mantel looked like this.

I decided that I liked the grates as a back drop but would remove the topiaries.  I had a grouping of four architectural prints on a bedroom wall in the upstairs hallway.  The brown undertones were perfect for the season.
So in my typical change up fashion I ripped them off the wall and plopped them onto the mantel.  Plopping and propping are good--no nail holes involved.

I added my velvet pumpkins from last year--a lovely gift from a reader--some antlers here and there--- and some seed pods and feathers in a vase with books as risers.

Here are some  close-ups of the Fall mantel.

Alongside the mantel I have an arrangement in a jar that I created previously and wanted to use again.

What have you done to get ready for Fall?

Re-visiting Cloches and Lucketts Update

Before I begin the post, I wanted to let everyone know that the Lucketts Spring Market was fabulous for vendors and shoppers alike.  It was a cloudy day with scattered showers but that did nothing to discourage the crowd.  The line started forming an hour before opening.  There were two entrances and I couldn't see the end of the long lines. With 200+ vendors there was something wonderful for everyone.  The shoppers I chatted with were thrilled with their finds.   My daughter helped me and we were busy from the opening until mid afternoon without a break.  It was a great weekend for hunting unique finds, making new friends, and catching up with long-time vendors/friends and bloggers I don't often see.  Kudos to The Old Lucketts Store for all the hard work they
did to make it successful for all.

On to cloches.

Lately I've been going back and re-visiting old posts.
If you missed my visit to my urns and trophies, go here.

Another "theme" that I noticed was how often I use cloches--both in my home design and in the shop.   I've selected waaaaaaaay too many cloches from my home and the store that I wanted to share.

This cloche is on my screened porch.  It holds some sea life and a mercury glass bird.  Suspended above is another favorite design prop, a sphere.

Things have a way of moving around my home.  This cloche with the artists' brushes
first appeared on a table in my foyer.

Next, the brushes took up residence on my porch.

Currently, they're in my dining room.

Shells and coral are displayed under this cloche in my sun room.

I have an egg on a pedestal under this cloche on my family room bookshelf.
Can you see the word "nest" etched into the glass?

In my living room, a collection of mottled orbs fills a jar.

In the Fall I filled a jar with acorns and antlers.

I received a gift of some lovely velvet pumpkins from one of my readers.
I used them to create more Fall decor on the mantel.
I have a stack of mini leather books under the cloche.

But wait, there's even more.  I carried my obsession over to the shop displays too.

Shells under another cloche with framed shell prints as a back drop.

Bottles and cloches for sale.

I even put some clock parts under glass.

I did a Fall market and filled these with pumpkins, crows, nests, pine cones, artichokes, and acorns.

Antlers work anywhere,  I combined them with some orbs for one of our sales.

I thought these lemons under glass perfectly complemented the chandelier and the
campaign furniture I was selling.

More woven grass spheres became part of a garden vignette in the store.

Whew!  Have I totally over cloched you?

Please come back again. I hope I've given you some ideas about ways
to display your treasures under glass.
