Pops of Orange in My Family Room

There's always a change up in the works at our house.
 This time I'll introduce browns, yellows, metallics and my decor favorite----orange.

I moved this ottoman from the living room to my family room.  It originally had a very traditional solid blue cover, but of course I updated it with some Trina Turk fabric in a bold orange geometric.  I draped it with a tasseled throw and added the orange tray that I normally use on the patio in the summer.  Inside are a stack of vintage books topped off with a moss orb and faux antlers.

I think it's just what the room needed to break up all the green.  The green chairs in the background are new to that spot.  They originally were torn red vinyl.  In the background is my much loved MCM buffet.  It supports our huge TV that I conveniently cropped out.

Check out how the faux antlers hug the moss orb.

Flanking the buffet are a pair of brass, glass, and chrome vintage MCM bookshelves.

The backs were open to my very uninteresting beige wall.  I filled the space with some architectural prints in leather frames.  They're a good back drop for the nature-inspired vignettes.

Take a closer look at the shelves of the bookshelf on the right.

I'm using my orange Hermes scarf boxes as risers.  The antlers are naturally bleached, 

and resting on the top shelf is one of my spikey spheres.

I stacked some mini books under a cloche and added a turtle shell on top of the pile. 

I found the shell on a walk in the woods.

The antler alongside it is faux.

Gotta share the other shelf too.

The Other MCM Shelf

Another sphere is on top, the Santos traveled from another spot to be on the shelf, the skull is resin.

One of my covered bottles helps hold up one of those always wobbly brass birds.

This lantern also decided to come in from the cold.  

(It will go back to the patio when the weather warms.)

I filled it with my growing collection of velvet pumpkins and some seed pods from a neighbor's tree.

The fabulous brass cube table is from an estate sale.

Mixing Vintage, New, and Lots of Animals

I always mix vintage with new, but for some reason I have added to my look.

Screened Porch Reveal View Two

In this area I have a garden table and chairs.  On the table are iron candlesticks, a cloche on a pedestal, and suspended above it, a wire orb.  I'm planning on adding a cord and light inside the orb.

Some Decor Inspiration Teasers

The screened porch saga still continues. 

I wanted to share the decor inspiration for the porch.  Or, as my family teasingly calls it, the excuse to change things around again.  I found this wonderful iron daybed at an estate sale.  It actually had these custom gray cushions that I actually like.  Again, on one of my spend my gift card money from Nate Berkus shopping trips, I found these fabulous sea life pillows at Tuesday Morning. They look a lot like a Thomas Paul fabric, don't you think?   There were only two.  Bummer.  So, I had my color scheme:  gray and cobalt.  And I had a ton of wicker furniture to unload.

 

Just thought I'd show you a few other finds I'm considering for the porch.  This mirror is from Home Goods.  I love the look.  I think I'll definitely use it on the porch.

(Any suggestions for photographing mirrors would be greatly appreciated.)

Also at Tuesday Morning I found these bound sisal rugs.  Side note:  If you're looking for very nice sisal rugs at a super price go there.  I found two 5x8 rugs for less than $100 each.  I was so excited because not only were they a good price, but they also were trimmed in gray.  They look a little uneven because they were folded up.  I'm sure they'll flatten.

Last tease.  I found this lantern at Home Goods too.  I don't know what I'll put inside, but it won't be a candle.  I"m thinking some shells or a stack of books.  What do you think?

I've had the garden orb for a while hanging above the table under the pergola.  I'm thinking about suspending it from the ceiling and adding a light and cord cover.

I love corbels.  I'm particularly excited about this one because it's gray.

And then I found these.  How often do you get the chance to coordinate your decor with your dishes? ( I just wanted to make sure that you know that you should not take this comment seriously.)
They're acrylic.  I'll have to have a party if I ever finish this project.
