Bow Front Mahogany Dresser---Before and After

I'm always up for a furniture transformation.  

This mahogany bow front dresser was very large.  It actually could be used as a buffet too. 

 The finish needed some love, but structurally it was a quality piece of furniture.   

I'll show you the after first.

Refreshed Mahogany Bow Front Dresser

Brace yourself for the BEFORE.  It's not pretty.

The top was even worse.

What a transformation!
Notice the carved detail, the fluting, and the original hardware.

Scalloped Apron Base

I painted the base with General Finishes Coastal Blue. 

 I used Citristrip to remove the finish on the top.  I'd never used it before and 

I was very happy with how easily it stripped away the varnish and crud.  

I used Java Gel, also by General Finishes, to stain the top.

FYI, the owners of Sweet Clover sell the whole General Finishes line.  I love the product.

Of course I had to add some accessories to the dresser.  I draped a vintage fabric Kantha quilt over a paned window frame, placed a Santos in front of the textile, then filled a terrarium with some deconstructed books and a ceramic octopus.
